How the distorted ATP ranking also distorts the tennis tournaments

(Jürgen Fritz, 31.05.2021) In its rankings, the ATP has two players in the top eight who have not been able to keep up with the world’s best for months, and one who is miles away from the top five on clay. Nevertheless, at Roland Garros, the most important clay tournament in the world, he is seeded at 2, the other two at 4 and 8. Others, on the other hand, are massively disadvantaged throughout, but this distorts the entire tournament.

The JFB 52 Week Tennis World Ranking on 26 April 2021

(Jürgen Fritz, 26.04.2021) In recent months, the ATP Ranking has repeatedly come in for criticism. The points system, which has been heavily modified due to the long pandemic break in play from March to August 2020, is said to be distorting, illogical, unfair and hardly understandable. JFB therefore developed a different scoring system that only takes into account results from the last 52 weeks, is less tendentious, more appropriate and quite simple to understand.
