All respect, at the Andalucia Open in Marbella all four Spaniards prevailed in the quarterfinals, including the still 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz (133), see picture, who surprisingly beat the Norwegian Casper Ruud, the world No. 26. This means that there will be an all-Spanish semi-final in Marbella (ATP 250) today. At the Sardegna Open in Cagliari, on the other hand, only one Italian was able to prevail.
Four Spaniards in the semi-finals of the Andalucia Open
This means we will see the following two all-Spanish semi-finals at the E tournament in Marbella today:
- Pablo Carreno Busta (15) – Albert Ramos-Vinolas (47): 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 5
- Jaume Munar (95) – Carlos Alcaraz (133): 7-64, 6-4
The final is therefore:
- Pablo Carreno Busta – Jaume Munar: 6-1, 2-6, 6-4
Only one Italian in the semi-finals of the Sardegna Open
At the Sardegna Open in Cagliari (also ATP 250), on the other hand, only one Italian could prevail. The 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti, who played so strongly recently, was eliminated yesterday against the Serb Djere. The semi-finals today will feature the following matches:
- Lorenzo Sonego (34) – Taylor Fritz (30): 6-4, 5-7, 6-1
- Laslo Djere (57) – Nikoloz Basilashvili (37): 6-2, 6-0
The final is therefore:
- Lorenzo Sonego – Laslo Djere: 2-6, 7-65, 6-4
First major clay court tournament of the year starts tomorrow in Monte Carlo
After these two small E clay tournaments, the first big clay tournament (C category: Masters 1000) starts tomorrow in Monte Carlo with a very strong 56-player main draw. There, 80 per cent of the world’s top players will be at the start, 24 top-30 players, among them 8 from the top ten, including the two-time Monte Carlo winner Novak Djokovic (1) and the eleven-time Monte Carlo champion Rafael Nadal.
