Daniil Medvedev’s victory at the Mallorca Championships, his first career title on grass, moves him closer to No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the JFB 52 Week Tennis World Ranking. In Eastbourne, Alex de Minaur secured the title with a win over Lorenzo Sonego in the final to move into the top 15.

Medvedev wins in Mallorca, de Minaur in Eastbourne

The Wimbledon Championships (A) started today. On Saturday, the last two preparatory tournaments on grass were completed. At the Mallorca Championships (E category: ATP 250), Daniil Medvedev secured the first grass court title in his career. He did not have much trouble with Sam Querrey in the final, beating him 6-4, 6-2 in just 62 minutes. So the world No. 2 seems well prepared for Wimbledon. It was Medvedev’s 11th singles tournament win on the ATP Tour, the fourth in the last 52 weeks. In addition, he won the ATP Cup (T) together with Andrey Rublev for Russia at the beginning of February. With the additional 10 points, he has moved to within 16.1 points of the industry leader Novak Djokovic.

In last week’s second grass-court tournament in Eastbourne (E), Australian Alex de Minaur downed Italian Lorenzo Sonego 4-6, 6-4, 7-65 in 2 hours 40 minutes. This was de Minaur’s fifth career ATP tournament win, his second this year. The 22-year-old thus improves from 18th to 13th in the JFB rankings.

Dominic Thiem and Rafael Nadal are unfortunately absent due to injury and exhaustion respectively. After the draw, the quarter-finals could look like this:

  1. Djokovic – Schwartzman / Sinner / Rublev
  2. Tsitsipas / de Minaur – Shapovalov / Bautista Agut
  3. Berrittini / Karatsev / Ruud – Auger-Aliassime / Humbert / Zverev
