After his tournament win in Tokyo, Taylor Fritz rises from 10 to 9 in The True Tennis World Ranking and Tokyo finalist Frances Tiafoe from 17 to 16. Novak Djokovic’s tournament win in Astana moves him closer to Alcaraz and Nadal and further away from Ruud.

Fritz wins in Tokyo, Djokovic in Astana

Taylor Fritz beat tie-break king Frances Tiafoe 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) in Sunday’s final at the 500 Tokyo tournament (D category). Tiafoe had previously won all his last twelve tiebreaks. This was Fritz’s third tournament win this season. With this, the still 24-year-old overtakes Jannik Sinner and rises from 10 to 9 in the JFB 52 Week Tennis Wolrd Ranking. Tiafoe overtakes Marin Cilic and climbs from 17 to 16. For both, Fritz and Tiafoe, this is the best ranking in their careers so far.

In the heavily contested 500 tournament in Astana (D), Kazakhstan, Novak Djokovic beat Daniil Medvedev 4-6, 7-6 (6) in a high-class and exciting semi-final. The Russian had to retire injured after the second set. In the final, Djokovic had little trouble with Stefanos Tsitsipas, beating him 6-3, 6-4. This was Djokovic’s fourth title this season and his fifth in the last 52 weeks. It moves him 20 points closer to the two Spaniards at the top of The True Tennis World Ranking, Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal, and further away from Casper Ruud at number four.

Next Monday, the Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells (C), which had been postponed from March to October in 2021, will drop out of the Ranking. Tournament winner Norrie will then lose 40 points, finalist Basilashvili 24, semi-finalists Fritz and Dimitrov 14 and quarter-finalists Zverev, Tsitsipas, Hurkacz and Schwartzman 8 points each.

And this is how the JFB 52 Week Tennis World Ranking (The True Tennis World Ranking), which is not selective but evaluates all official tournaments, including those not organised by the ATP (all Grand Slam tournaments, which are basically weighted 25 per cent higher than by the ATP, Olympic Games for 52 weeks after they are held, Davis Cup, Laver Cup and also the Next Gen Finals), looks after Tokyo and Astana:
